Why I Started Ending Every Meeting With โSee You in Person Soonโ Even for Remote Workers
It was an impulse at first. A casual sign-off, something different from the usual monotony of โThanks, talk soonโ or โGreat meeting, everyone.โ Instead, as the call wrapped up, I leaned slightly toward the camera, let my voice drop just enough, and said, โSee you in person soon.โ
The pause was immediate. A hesitation, a flicker of uncertainty in their eyes.
I didnโt laugh. Didnโt clarify. I just ended the call.
The next time, I let it linger. โSee you in person soon.โ A beat of silence. A subtle smile. I watched the discomfort set in, the way their shoulders tensed, the way Gregโs fingers twitched near his mute button. Sarah from HR started hanging up just a little faster each time.
Then, Greg stopped showing up. Someone mentioned a leave of absence. No one had details. Just gone.
โSee you in person soon,โ I said at the end of the next meeting, eyes locked on Sarah. She didnโt laugh.
I flew out that night.
She didnโt answer when I knocked on her door.
But I know she was home.
